Dealing with difficult patients
Any strategies for maintaining compassion with challenging patients? Some days are harder than others. Would appreciate hearing how others cope.

My preceptor during orientation made such a difference in my confidence and skills. If you're a preceptor, know that you're shaping the next generation. Thank you!

Celebrating a milestone
10 years in healthcare today! It's been challenging but incredibly rewarding. Grateful for all the patients, colleagues, and mentors who shaped my journey.

Unraveling at the Seams
Found myself crying in the supply closet again today. Can't shake the feeling of burnout. I miss loving my job. Any advice?
I've definitely been there, sister. Swapped to part time a few months ago and it's been a game changer. Might be worth considering.
I'm curious, when was the last time you took a proper vacation day? Getting out of the environment for a while can be so helpful.
Wait, you guys get a supply closet to cry in? Luxury...

Traveling Troubles
Anyone else dealing with resentment from staff nurses? I'm a travel RN and I swear it's like high school all over again. I am here to help, not steal your job.
Been there, sister. Just keep your head up and do your job. They'll get used to you eventually.
Hmm, have you considered that they might just be feeling threatened or insecure? It's not about you, really.
This happened to me in my first travel gig. Got the cold shoulder from the regular staff. I tried to break the ice by bringing in donuts one morning. You'd …

Imposter syndrome
Always feel like I'm not good enough. I've been a nurse for two years but I'm constantly second-guessing myself. Does this ever go away?
Been there. It gets better, promise.
I felt the same way until my third year in. Had a patient who'd been in and out of hospitals. Told me I was the best nurse they'd had. Confidence …
Imposter syndrome's a beast, no doubt. But don't let it paralyze you. Use it to motivate you to learn more.

Poisoned Culture
Between the toxic team dynamics and management that doesn't care, I feel exhausted. Anyone else feel like the hospital culture is sucking the life out of them?
Sometimes it feels like I left bedside nursing only to deal with more toxicity in management. Remember, you're not alone in this.
When I worked nights, the culture was just as bad. Some nights, with few breaks and demanding patients, it was just soul-draining.
Have you considered joining a nursing union? They can really help with these issues.

CandidateNew grad advice needed
Just passed my boards! 🎓 Now I'm overwhelmed by job options. Should I start in med-surg to build a foundation, or specialize right away in an area I'm passionate about?

I had a similar experience. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat.

The real cost of shift work
Worked my third holiday this year. Missed my daughter's recital yesterday. The money's not worth it anymore. How are you all managing the guilt and exhaustion that comes with shift work?
I don't think the guilt ever truly goes away... we just learn to manage and balance better.
I schedule PTO around key family events. Sometimes the floor has to manage without me.
I turned to PRN. Less money but got my life back.

Daylight Robbery
Just found out the new grad working nights on my unit is making more than me. And I've been on this floor for 6 years. Who’s idea was this? Honestly, I'm seething right now. Anyone else discovered something similar and what did you do?
Same boat here. 3 years on the unit, new hires making more. Something’s gotta give.
It's not right, but it's no surprise. Hospitals are desperate for staff, so new grads are being offered more to attract them.
When I found out a newbie was earning more, I went straight to my manager. She didn't know, and managed to get me a raise. Maybe try that?

Remote work in healthcare
Surprised to find so many remote positions in healthcare now - telehealth, case management, utilization review. The industry has really evolved. What remote healthcare roles have you seen?

Why do we put up with this?
Lately, I've been asking myself why we - as nurses - put up with so much crap from patients and doctors alike. We work our tails off, take care of everyone else, and get treated like we're expendable. Today, I had a patient scream at me because their dinner was late. Later, I had a doc treat me like his personal secretary. I'm just...I'm just tired, you know? Why do we continue doing this to ourselves?
Hang in there. It's tough, but remember why you got into nursing in the first place.
I get where you're coming from. Sometimes I feel like we're everyone's punching bags, not just their caregivers.
Honestly, I've asked myself the same question. But then I remember Mrs. Smith who told me how much I made her last days easier. It's for them.
