Just A Newbie
So I'm this new grad RN thrown in the deep end of a busy med-surg floor. And it's brutal. I know, I know, 'welcome to nursing' and all that. But there's this massive gap between what school taught me and the actual job on the floor is like. Today, a patient's family yelled at me for being 'too slow' while I was trying to help another critical patient. My preceptor was of zero help. Anyone else felt like a failure when they started out? Can't be just me.
Ugh, same. First shift in the ICU felt like I was in over my head. It gets better, promise.
Don't let them get to you, hun. Remember, when families lash out, it's usually from fear and frustration. It's not about you.
You're not a failure. It's a steep learning curve, no doubt. But remember, even the most seasoned nurse was once a newbie.
