We're Not Machines
Long shift today and guess what? Short staffed again. I was floated to another unit, and sure, adaptability is part of the game, but I signed up for a certain patient ratio, not an overloaded ICU. Kudos to those who can handle that but it's not my jam. It's the safety of the patients that's bothering me. Everyone's walking on eggshells because it's not a matter of if, but when something is going to go wrong. How do you guys handle this pressure?
Same boat. Took a much-needed mental health day yesterday to decompress.
Maybe it's time to bring up the issue with your unit's staffing coordinator. They won't know about the problem if we don't voice it!
Once worked three doubles in a row due to short staffing. Nearly quit. We're human, not robots!
