Finding Light in the Dark

Long night, lack of sleep, challenging patients... you know the drill. But then, a small win. My patient, he'd been delirious and uncooperative, suddenly squeezed my hand and thanked me. Just that. But it meant everything. Made the hassle worth it, reminded me why I'm here. Anybody else had a small win recently? Something to remind us why we keep pushing?

That's the heart of nursing, the small wins. This AM, a nonverbal pt smiled at me for the first time.

Congrats on your win! But do you find them rare? I feel like I'm constantly fighting a losing battle.
