Ratios Are Killing Us

Got floated to Med-Surg tonight. We were so understaffed it was ridiculous. Overloaded with patients, no CNAs around, and of course, call lights blinking like a damn Christmas tree. It was a whole new level of chaos. How do you all deal with the stress of short staffing? Honestly, not sure if I can keep this up much longer.

You're not alone. I had a nightmare ER shift last week - 36 patients, only 4 nurses on. It's not safe and it's not sustainable.

Can't help but see the other side too. It's not always management, sometimes it's a lack of applicants. How do we encourage more people to join the profession?
