Why stay in a toxic unit?
Had one of those shifts. The kind where everything goes wrong, and the whole unit turns on each other. The charge nurse blaming us for the workload, staff at each other's throats over nothing. I'm just so tired of it. But I'm scared of leaving, starting somewhere new. Is it like this everywhere? Can you really escape, or do you just trade one kind of toxic for another?
I hear you, it's soul-sucking. But not all units are like this. Took me 3 tries but now I'm in a place I love.
Honestly, might be worth switching. I did and it's better. Not perfect, but better.
As an outsider looking in, sounds like leadership needs a shake-up. That's where the culture comes from.
