Floated again
Look, I'm all for being a team player, but getting floated to a different unit every other shift is driving me insane. I didn't train in neuro to get thrown into geriatrics at the drop of a hat. I don't know those patients, their procedures, or their routines. It's unsafe for them and it's unfair to me. Surely there's a better way to manage staffing instead of trading us around like we're baseball cards?
Totally feel you. Got traded from ICU to med-surg last week. Felt like I was in a foreign land.
I guess it can be tough, but isn't adapting part of our job? Keeps you on your toes, right? Then again, I'm one of those weirdos who likes getting moved …
Reminds me of when I was a new grad, floated between pediatrics, surgical and rehab within a week. I know it's tough, but believe me, it builds character and experience.
