Squeezed by the staffing
It's similar to running on fumes. A 12-hour shift feels like eternity and we still can't catch our breath. What's happening with these staffing ratios? Went from 1:4 to 1:6. It's disheartening and not fair. If the suits in management had to do a shift with this ratio, they'd probably drop. Wonder how others are coping with this.
Same boat. My unit went 1:5 and shifts have become survival tests. I question my sanity at the end of every shift.
Hang in there and keep advocating for your patients. It's management's role to keep patient-nurse ratios safe. They might not listen today, but we need to keep pushing.
Honestly, there's value in having more patients. I feel I'm becoming more efficient, learning faster. Not ideal, but there's a silver lining.
